Your privacy is important to us. The Platform Provider respects the need to protect the personal information of our users, including students, parents, tutors, and educational institutions. This Privacy Policy explains how personal information is collected, used, disclosed, and safeguarded when you download, install, access, or use the Knowyu mobile application.

Please read this Privacy Policy carefully. By installing, accessing, or using the Knowyu mobile app, you consent to the data practices described herein.

Scope and Registration of Minors

Knowyu is an educational technology platform designed for school communities. Direct registration by minor students is strictly prohibited. Accounts for students can only be created and managed by their parents, legal guardians, or authorized educational institutions.

Parents, legal guardians, or institutions registering a minor represent and warrant that they have the legal authority to provide personal information on behalf of the student and consent to the collection and processing of the student's data as described in this policy.

Information Collected Through the Mobile Application

We collect information directly from you, automatically through your device, and through interactions within the mobile app.

Information Provided Voluntarily:

  • Registration and Account Information: Names, email addresses, mobile phone numbers, physical addresses, user role (parent, student, tutor, or institutional administrator), and school affiliation. For student, only name and class is used.
  • Student Profile Data: Grade/class level, academic performance, test results, attendance, and doubt-clearing post records.
  • Payment and Fee Information: When parents pay school fees, tuition fees, or purchase tutorials through the App, billing details and contact information are collected. Payment details such as credit/debit card numbers or UPI IDs are processed securely by PCI-DSS compliant third-party payment gateways and are never stored on our servers.
  • User-Generated Content: Content created or submitted within the App, including posts, doubt queries, discussion responses, feedback, and uploaded educational materials.
  • Communications: Messages, notices, and interactions between parents, teachers, institutions, and tutors within the App.

Information Collected Automatically via Mobile Device:

  • Device Identifiers: Unique device ID (UDID/Android ID), push notification tokens, and mobile hardware specifications.
  • Usage and Analytics Data: App launch frequency, features accessed, tutorial viewing history, mock test response times, crash logs, and performance diagnostics.
  • Network and Connection Information: IP address, mobile network provider, and connection speeds.

Mobile Permissions Requested:

The App may request access to certain features of your mobile device, which you can manage at any time through your device settings:

  • Camera and Media Storage: To enable users to upload photographs or documents for doubt clearing, profile pictures, or educational posts.
  • Notifications: To send push notifications regarding educational announcements, doubt clarifications, test reminders, fee collection alerts, and school notices.

How We Use Collected Information

The information collected through the App is used for educational and operational purposes, including:

  • Facilitating access to mock tests, tutorials, doubt-clearing channels, and live or online tutoring sessions.
  • Enabling parents and institutions to monitor student performance, academic progress, and activity logs.
  • Processing fee payments between parents and schools or tutors.
  • Sending institutional communications, educational updates, and administrative alerts via push notifications, SMS, email, or In-app notification.
  • Conducting content moderation to maintain a safe and productive educational environment.
  • Troubleshooting technical bugs, analyzing app usage trends, and improving app performance.

Sharing and Disclosure of Information

We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information to third parties for marketing purposes. Information may be shared under the following conditions:

  • Educational Stakeholders: A student's academic progress, activity logs, and posts are accessible to their registered parents/guardians, linked teachers, and affiliated educational institution administrators.
  • Third-Party Service Providers: We share necessary data with trusted service providers who assist in operating the App, including cloud hosting providers, push notification services, SMS/communication gateways, and payment processors.
  • Moderation and Safety Compliance: Content posted on the App undergoes moderation. Information may be disclosed if required to address violations of our Terms and Conditions or to ensure community safety.
  • Legal Requirements: We may disclose personal information if required by law, subpoena, court order, or regulatory authority, or in good faith to protect legal rights, user safety, or the public.

Content Moderation and In-App Interaction

Knowyu functions as a common platform and intermediary. All user-generated posts, doubt queries, and shared materials are subject to moderation. Users can report or flag inappropriate, inaccurate, or harmful content directly within the mobile app. The Platform Provider will review flagged content and take necessary action, including content removal or account restriction.

Data Security and Retention

We implement administrative, technical, and physical security measures appropriate for a mobile application environment to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, loss, alteration, or disclosure. Communications within the App and payment transactions are transmitted using encrypted connections (SSL/TLS).

We retain personal data for as long as the user account remains active or as required to provide educational services, comply with legal obligations, and resolve disputes.

User Rights and Data Control

  • Account Access and Correction: Parents, institutions, and tutors can update or correct account profile information directly within the App settings or by contacting customer support.
  • Data Deletion Requests: Parents or institutions may request the deletion of a student's profile and associated personal data by contacting us via email.
  • Communication Preferences: Users can manage push notification preferences in their device settings and unsubscribe from non-essential email communications.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated periodically to reflect changes in mobile app functionality, legal obligations, or operational practices. When material updates are made, registered users will be notified through an in-app notice, push notification, or email update.
